He needs to accept the fact that your just friends, and thats the way its going to stay.
People have a brilliant way of making other people feel guilty, and it sounds like this is what he's trying to do.

Give him a choice, tell him you can either be friends nothing more, or if he cant deal with just being friends to back off and leave you alone. I know you care about him. but that way he can get over you then maybe you can be friends in the future when he's moved ona bit.

But deffinately stay single if thats how you like it
