Sounds like you should trust the doctor that isn't family. My reason is because there is less motive to make fun of you like that. Ask to see a written documentation of his results, and maybe you could show it to another doctor and see what they think. That eliminates the chance that your family related doctor knows something your other doctor doesn't know.
