I honestly can't say, it all depends on how well i knew the person, and if they actually showed any signs of change before they did it...

Desperation, humiliation, violent mind or isolated social history...Basically i think they would do it because something bad has happened to them, and they cannot decide on a better resolution. Usually something that happens to them continually and on a regular basis
