The thing is, that in the 'real' cases of suicide, the depression is too big to care.
My father didn't think that my mum and I would be unhappy. He felt he was a burden that needed to be lifted. He thought we would be better off without him. He still loved us, but it didn't occur to him that we would be unhappy because of his decision. He was so depressed that he was beyond logical thinking.
He was admitted in a ward at the time. So much for my faith in psychiatry.
