Do we have the conscious ability to choose who we desire to be in a relationship with, or are we pulled towards another by some inescapable drive that pushes us without our consent?

If you believe that our attraction to another is out of control, how would you describe this force? Is this what we would call destiny, other's God's will, or perhaps a simple biological need to reproduce?
