Not necessarily, I've asked plenty of girls if they had aim with only the intentions of just being friends. They felt the same way.

Another thing I forgot to add on to my original post is that her friends might say the things they do because they don't like the guy like I've said before they don't like him and they think you are sweet, nice, etc...
