Why do you assume that us "non-believers" are automatically atheists and ignorant?

I've gotten from so many people that just because I don't believe in the Bible automatically makes me an atheist.

Now, I personally consider myself a Deist. Go ahead and look up Deism. It's basically the belief that there is a God, but He is not an interactive God. He kind of just stood back and let things happen the way they were going to happen. To me, it makes more sense than a God that just let things like war, genocide and hunger happen.

I've also had people tell me that I'm ignorant about the Bible. Why is this the assumption? Maybe I'm a special case. But I have read the entire Bible. I go to a Catholic university, yet people still seem to question my understanding of the Bible.

Why is this?
God doesn't exist. Period. Get over that fact and move on. And atheist aren't ignorant...Christians are the ones who are narrow-minded idiots. They live their life by a book. Lame.
