You shouldn't have assumed to be honest. You are her friend, friends talk, you should have pursued the issue and asked her more about her feelings towards you, her ex, and her current thoughts.
But, from the rest of your story, BBB seems like an attention seeker, maybe you need to sit down with her and tell her your concerns, ask her what is up and if you have done something wrong, be sincere about it, it seems to be the best way without pissing her off.
