how could this happen?

I watched this show on MSNBC which happened in my state 2 years ago in Indiana.

WTHR - Indianapolis News and Weather - Taylor University tragedy in headlines again

Well basically out of a van of 9 people 5 people were killed in the car accident. One girl was brain injured and one girl died and the two girls identity was mistaken at the scene of the accident. So basically the parents, family , and friends did not realize that it was someone elses daughter in the hospital for 5 WEEKS! The family of the injured girl thought their daughter was dead for 5 weeks when in fact she was alive. The other parents thought their daughter was alive when in fact she was dead. How could something like this happen? Were the parents so blinded by their emotions they could actually not recognize their own daughter in the hospital? It seems such an irony that one tragedy could have a happy ending and one happy ending turn to a tragedy.

Thoughts anyone?
