You know, Renee is your friend and she should really respect your decision. I don't think you should put your relationship on hold just to make sure Renee is okay with it. She should understand your feelings for someone else.
I have been in her situation and yeah it sucks, but if you truly care about someone and are good friends with them you have to get over it in order for them to be happy.
