Association football, which is twice as popular as the Olympics, is thrice more popular worldwide than all the American sports combined. It is also the only type of football that most Europeans or Asians know and care about. An inter-school football match in Europe is more likely to draw a bigger crowd than an American football world cup.
The only countries apart from Americans who care about American football are Canadians, Japanese, Australians and a couple of Latin American nations. It has a smaller lineup than even cricket, which is considered a secondary popularity sport.
