I have no idea about the technical end of computers, all I know is I know how to play them fairly well xD. So my friend wants to buy a memory chip for inside his computer (its 2gb) so is that harddrive or memory, What is memory, and where can i find this ( Is it computer, properties on the c drive?)
Well it is very unlikely you would buy 2gb HD for your computer so I assume he is talking about memory (RAM). If you are running vista then opening "Computer" from the start menu and looking at the bottom should tell you your hard drive and your memory however if you are using XP then click "My Computer" from the start menu and then click "View system information" from the left hand menu.

Memory is a synonym for RAM, and that's what he's referring to. Hard drive space and RAM share the same fundamentals but are, in the end, very different. You can find how much RAM/memory your computer has by right-clicking on My Computer (or simply Computer in Vista) and selecting properties. The amount will be listed towards the bottom right.

Wow thank you guys ^.^ I now know a little what he is talking a bout lol. Another sub question, What would purchasing RAM be good for, Faster computer use?
RAM is the easiest and cheapest way to upgrade your computer. And yes, it will definitely increase the performance of your computer. It increases the speed but not directly. Basically RAM allows your computer to do more at the same time. If your computer is bogged down, tasks have to wait for others to be completed before a new one can begin.
Think of RAM as a room. Try building a car in your livingroom. You could physically do it, but it would be awkward and slow. Now try building a car in an aircraft hangar. Not only is it much easier, but you can build a dozen cars at the same time.
Simply put, the more RAM you have, the better.
