MSN causing internet problems

Hi,

Lately running MSN Messenger causes my internet to disconnect. Sometimes I can chat for fifteen minutes, sometimes for half a minute, but most of the times my internet dies sooner of later because of MSN Messenger and MSN alone. All other web applications, this includes web messengers like eBuddy, work perfect. Does anyone know how to solve this?

Thanks in advance,

Henri

Re: MSN causing internet problems

It's Windows Live Messenger, but the version doesn't seem to matter. Updates have been released and that solved nothing.

Re: MSN causing internet problems

For once I am actually clueless here. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?
Plus have you updated your PC (Via Windows Update) and also updated your internet (If you're using a router and wireless adapter) with the correct drivers.

Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't work. Windows Update doesn't work well here either, but could you give me some more explanation on updating my internet? I have a wireless adapter, btw.

go to speedtest.net and test your internet, paste your img link into here, if its a constant issue it may be related to your internet speed and peak timing of use.

If you're using a wireless adapter you have a router

Um, this depends on your router I guess. I suppose you could give me your Router name and model and also your adapter model too. I'll go have a looksee.

Re: MSN causing internet problems

Maybe try a different client, like Trillian (Cerulean Studios: Creators of Trillian and Trillian Pro Instant Messengers) and see if it still disconnects you. If you're on Mac, I suggest Adium.

based on the information I can find and from where you're from (I don't know if that matters) I found this. Though Check to make sure because you might not need this at all. To check your current fimeware version (Cause I don't 100% know Linksys) log on to your router.

If you don't know how then follow this.

Type in your address bar: 192.168.1.1
If no one has ever logged in your router before then there shouldn't be a username and the password is admin

From there (This is where I don't know) you have to look for like Router Status or version or stuff. It'll tell you your router version on the router but it may have been updated since then plus this is to check if you already have the version the site offer. I also may have confused you but learning this stuff is helpful.

Re: MSN causing internet problems

Ok the speed is fine, so there isn't an issue there at all, do you have a separate firewall such as mcafee or something installed?

Re: MSN causing internet problems

Okay, I updated the firmwire, let's see how it goes.
@Mattster: you're restricted to a 20 GB download and upload limit here, so it's not all that great.
@Dave: I only have Norton and Ad-Aware.

Having a limit sucks but your speed is better than mine. I have unlimited downloads
