there's this girl i like, and i talk to her on email frequently, but during school im scared to talk to her because my friends are around, i dont know why but im afraid of what they will think, also, im afraid this other guy is getting her to fall for him, and he is much more socially adept than me, you see, im a nerdy guy...

you just need to gather the courage to talk to her in front of your mates, Belive me, they wont think anything, its normal, and if you want that your crush should not be snathed away by the other guy, you need to go and talk.

Just go for it and go up and talk to her in perseon. You only live once. Who cares what your friends think (they probably won't care anyway).

As for this other guy, all I can say is try to be better than him. Be there for her when he isn't.

My friends ripped me a new asshole when I went on a pity date with this girl. They teased me for about a month, and eventually we resumed a normal status. It's not hard at all to deal with friends if they are just that, friends. So just ask her, and you could try to do it away from friends.
