Britain’s referendum?
For those who don’t know. A new treaty on the EU has arisen. The idea behind it is to make the EU work better than it is at the moment, increase trade relations and other proposed benefits. The general idea is to combine the countries in the EU industrial power, and use its council to apply more pressure on countries that are not abiding by human rights laws and such.
That’s the simplest description that I could think of, I missed a lot out. I mean, not even I know all the policies on the new treaty. In 2002 Tony Blair’s Labor party promised the British people a referendum on the EU, claiming that he would not bring Britain into anything that the British people were not comfortable about. Since the resignation of Tony Blair, Gordon Brown has ignored this promise to the British public and has gone ahead to meet with the EU leaders anyway.
Now I have no problem that some of the aspects that the EU will bring to this great nations. However, Gordon Brown said he would “Respect the British people’s values.” One of which is that we wish to remain greatly independent of the EU because of the changes it will make to our court system and government, in extremes, even our currency. Politicians will go on about how Britain does not have to agree to all of the polices brought forward by the EU but why are we trying to rationalize this? Where the hell is the British people’s vote?
I can assure you, most of Britain does not want to be anymore involved in the EU than we already are. British people want to be British before European, what British people want to re rebuild our culture to what it once was which, quite frankly cannot be achieved by getting more involved in the EU. What about our nuclear program? What of that?
I wrote this in a rush, so apologies for any mistakes. I’ll edit it all shortly, when I get back... Post your opinions.

If I'm old enough to vote in the next election I'm voting for Cameron.

I hate people who don't vote, but honestly. I wouldn't know who to vote for. I guess I'd vote labour if they gave us the referendum.

I dislike that he pretty much lied to us, but I do like his government policies of the Royal navy, nuclear arms and so forth.

Re: Britain’s referendum?
Brown sounds like a mild character as compared to Blair, but on the better side, he doesn't want UK as a 51st US state. So far UK is more or less that although the morally nationalist British would disagree. If it biases a little more towards EU it would ensure a better political and military future, at least as the trends go.
UK couldn't have created EF Typhoon and such without the help of Germany and Spain, neither could it have lifted itself out of its economic stagnation of the 1990s without EU centric policies. UK as a coglometrate of four nations is too small to live in isolation, it has to choose between EU and US. Which choice, it picks up depends on the political factors anf perhaps cultural issues - UK is closer culturally to US than EU.

I don't like his obsession with tax, or the ID card/monitor everyone Big Brother state he plans, from what I've heard other older people saying too, I think the plans for black boxes in cars and charging per mile will cost him an election everybody seems to be against it and rightly so, I can't even drive yet and I'm against it, I think overall the Tories seem to be talking more sense and it's about time we had a change, to see Brown have a landslide loss would be icing on the cake though.

Re: Britain’s referendum?
I'd vote against labour but for your original post, Britain should stay well apart from the EU, the changes it would make to our laws and lifestyles would be a step backwards. We're better without it, but even if it is going to go ahead, the british people (majority against) should at least get a vote.
