Social drinking?

My parents always let me have a few sips of whatever they are drinking. Do you think this is wrong? I know they say it kills brain cells and rots liver. But is a little every now and then o.k.? I seen drunks and sure don't want to turn out like them.

Re: Social drinking?

Hi Kadi,
Enjoying wine, beer is a common activity in many social situations. Although alcohol can be seen as a good way to relax, it is important to note that behaviour plays an important role in determining alcohol a person consumes.

Re: Social drinking?

Yes and mixing drinking with other common things can be deadly as well. I know that say if you drink a beer and snort some cocaine, the 2 chemicals react together and create a whole new chemical that can be deadly.
Even over the counter medication in the wrong combo can cause serious trouble.
Some things you just don't think about untill it is too late I guess?

Re: Social drinking?

I do not think there is anything wrong with a couple of sips now and then as long as you don’t make it an everyday habit. Not only can alcohol destroy your liver but it can seriously impair your ability to function in the way that you normally would. You should also never drink and drive, not only are you endangering yourself when you do, but you are also endangering the lives of every motorist and pedestrian out on the road with you.

Re: Social drinking?

Social drinking is OK. A teeny bit of alcohol has got some medicinal value. We just have to be careful not to rely on it like a crutch, like drinking when we feel low. You are right though, alcohol damages the brain cells and they don't grow back. So the choice is entirely up to you.

Re: Social drinking?

Your parents are actually teaching you to drink but not get drunk. That is good parenting. See? You don't even want to see yourself get drunk. That's a part of their plan. They don't want you to be curious about alcohol then end up being a drunkard. They're teaching you how to be a grown-up. Everybody drinks occasionally and that's what they're teaching you. You can drink occasionally and need not get drunk.

i agree!! i moved countries about 2 years ago and when i used to live in the uk; my parents and everyone elses parents used to allow their children to drink with them in a healthy manner.
now i dont feel the need to get out of hand; or to drink behind my parents back to be rebellious.
ultimatley; [sp??] if you are not allowed to do something; you are going to eventually do it just to rebel. and ive also realised that when i do this with other things- i do it excessively. which is not good.
social drinking is a great thing; as long as you stay in control.

I think that's fine. You're not going to kill yourself by occasional moderate drinking.
