Re: What Americans Believe
Hmm.. well, as always I must question the statistics. You have to look at the people interviewed. Are 1,016 adults enough to justify a "majority of Americans"? Are kids and teenagers not Americans? Who actually spent the time on the phone to answer their questions?
Also notice that it was conducted in 2001.
I would have to say that there is a big collection of Americans that believe in creationism. However, as far as any statistics go.. well.. who knows. People can play with numbers all they'd like to make them seem in their favor.

Re: What Americans Believe
Personally I don't really care. I used to be religious and stuff, and then I learned all about the theory of evolution when I moved into this country. Because quite of an athiest at some point, now I don't care. Haha.

Re: What Americans Believe
I think the statistics are more in favour of Americans. Personally I find 9 out of 10 American blindly believes in intelligent creation supersition, the only argument being "nothing can exist without someone creating it". Well when asked how god could exist without someone creating him the reply is, "he just exists, he doesn't need a creator". Talk of lack of logic.....

If you don't want to be through it again, you are free to refrain from arguing about it. See no pressure. I'd still use to explain how Americans are narrowminded and stupid because this one comes from a real, live and kicking American.

Re: What Americans Believe
This is more about most Christians refusing logic than Americans. And seeing how most of the country is Christian, this is not suprising.

Re: What Americans Believe
they didn't survey many people compared to the popularity size of the country did they? so kind of hard to justify with just that many people

Re: What Americans Believe
Perhaps Americans are more likely to demand physical evidence. No, a book does not constitute physical evidence.

Re: What Americans Believe
Yeah well some of the people that do not believe in evolution have no knowledge about the theory. How can you believe in something if you don't even know what it's about? Same with the people who do not believe in intelligent design. That thing is about faith, so if one does not have faith, then how could they believe it.

Re: What Americans Believe
This doesn't even make sense. After all, statistically, fewer Americans actually beleive in God in the first place. Perhaps if the information was less than 6 years old..... But, alas, I ask to much.

Re: What Americans Believe
I don't see people who take the bible word for word as terribly bright...I think fundamentalism is a bad thing for anything.
People should be free to believe what they want...but in my opinion if you seriously believe in creationism and completely disregard Darwin’s theory of Evolution you're mad. You can't beat science.

Re: What Americans Believe
A book, with no real conclusive evidence, is not science. I can write a book claiming that the African continent will detach from the world and float off into space, but that does not make it true.
