Money: 551,764 Last Online: 03-03-2010 02:37 AM My Mood: | Break up of the United Kingdom There is an ever increasing feeling between the English and Scottish for a break up of the United Kingdom to name England and Scotland as independant nations.
Here is a report http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main...6/nunion26.xml although it is from the end of 2006 it is still very relevant.
I'm just wondering on what people's views are on England and Scotland becomming independant nations. Would we survive after around 300 years of union? What would become of Wales and Northern Ireland and would they still be governed by parliament in London? Is this just long lived petty nationalism and rivalry between the English and the Scots? I want to know people's opinions on the matter.
I am in favour of keeping the union strong although I feel there are many things I do not feel are right. One for example is tax payed by those in England is spent abolishing tuition fees for Scottish students in Scottish universities when English students in English universities are having their tuition fees raised higher and higher. I feel that if the union is to continue then tax should benefit those who pay it.

That'd probably lead to loads of political rows, and cultural rivalry stronger than it already is. Suppose they haven't thought about what would happen to the British Army either, because there sure isn't an English, Irish, Welsh or Scottish Army.

I heard stats somewhere that something like 12% of scots call themselves british and only 7% of english people do.
I think it is inevitable that it will happen, it is just a question of when and how. |

And if it does happen, then Gordon Brown can do us a favour and fuck off and ruin their country and leave us be...

Much of the money the recieve comes from the United Kingdom Government comes from the English tax payer. Many of the new ideas and policise that the SNP would like to introduce would be next to impossible I think without the support of the union.

Also what would happen to parliament and how would our countries survive in the international policial arena after sucha long union?
