Ok...who here want's a religion? I mean, i'm not religiouse, and have no religion, and no matter what, I know that I will never have one. Everytime I think I've found one that works for me (christianity, buddhism), I find somewhat flaws in it, and don't have enought faith!
Like, christianity, they talk about god like being the creator of the universe, but I can't accept that, since it's not possible. I would love to have a religion, but there are not many that don't have a god...what do you's think? Anyway here in the same situation?
Why do you want a religion? You can do much better without one.
You can also find things to worship which aren't Gods. I worship biology, mathematics, music, the intricate patterns of the world. (It sounds crazy, but it is.)

Well I'm a nerd so you might not share this fascination... but I think it's incredibly cool how orderly, intricate and, well, *artistic* the universe is. The world is composed of trillions of particles that whizz around each other in simple but elegant patterns. If you put them all together, though, you get something amazingly complex or beatiful, like a violin (corny examples!) or the spiral of a shell. And people are just part of that pattern too, even though our minds are hugely complex.

Religion was created to strike fear in the eyes of people, to keep them in place becase they were afraid of hell, all religions are evil! Their the casue of all the shit thats happening all inocent people dieing becasue a bunch of people belive in a old book! If i write my own bible in 2000 years will the world follow it?

You paint things in really, really broad strokes. I think there are several reasons religion is around. And it's not the worst thing, nor the thing that kills the most people.

If you fill the pages with mesmerizing chants of "Teach this to your children. Teach this to your children. Teach this to your children," then sure, one or two generations and they'll be yours. Bad ideas spread by exposure to the virus at a young age.

ukbmxboy! Religions are not all evil, they sometimes inspire people to become all they can be, and help them become better people. I'm not religions, but it does good to millions of people, so why stop it? just become you are not religions, don't hate it. And Aiden! lol....I think I get what you mean...

True, very true. It's not, and probly never will be.

Why do you think religion is good for you? If it's false, it is probably bad for people.

but if it's false...and millions of poeple think it's true, and they act better because of a lie...isn't it better to act good because of a lie, than act bad because of the truth???

I guess it would be. But my point is that the truth tends to cause people to act good and falsehood makes them act bad.
If people have a false idea of what real morality is, don't you think they will act evil, or at least not totally good? And religion's idea of morality is generally very sick. (Except that I really like the ethical system of Buddhism.)

What good has religion done? I mean have you ever read the bible? what a load of shit! Riligion splits up the world into big gangs, one gang vs another and all people who dont belive and just want to live their lives get stuck in the middle. How can people belive in the bible, do they belive in santa, easter bunny, boogey man? each has no evidence they exist
I think their all mad, a few screws messing in the brain
I used to go around school, and if some one commented on my being an atheist, I'd challenge them to find me a religion with proof behind it. Needless to say no one could.
I'd LOVE for some one to prove to me that I'll see my loved ones after I die.. But I'm not willing to do so under false pretense.

i'm not defending religion, i'm just saying what I think. I mean there are thousands of good AND bad things about it. I think you cant' just pick the bad, or the good, because there are too many of both. I'm atheist too, and love it! lol

Yeah, and more hostile potty-mouthed, name-calling athiests with no common basis for morality will make this world such a better place...
