Post Time or Science

I believe everything happens for a reason, when your time is up its over.

Others believe modern medicines and drugs have a great influence on life.

[eg; my great grandma believed "life was life and life is yours", she lived to receive a letter of congratulations from the queen, i think she was 102 when she died, she smoked for 40 years, she drank for 30, but she was still walking round the block and making her roast until the day she died.

then others, like my aunt, will drink for 20 years, be diagnosed with liver cancer and die at the age of 50]

Whats your outlook on life? time or science.

Re: Time or Science

Well just from what you said, science can't be the only thing. The things that science considers harmful such as smoking or excessive drinking affect people in different ways. So it's a mixture of time and science, I reckon. It simply depends how much a risk you want to take and how your body behaves. Besides, you'd have to look at all the factors regarding what might have contributed to death.

Re: Time or Science

science.

recently scientists have found a genetic link between lung cancer and smoking. this means that a small percentage of people have a certain gene that allows them to not get lung cancer from smoking. this would explain why some people can die after 10 years of smoking and other smokers live to be 80.

No such link has been found for alcohol that i know of. but we don't understand everything about how people's bodies work. and just because there are certain things that we don't understand doesn't mean they are fate/destiny/ supernatural

Re: Time or Science

70% of humans follow a book named the bible.. now you tell me how smart we are, thankgod theres 30% of us who arnt that naive.

Your damn right we don't understand how our bodies work, and they're even further away from understanding our brain, and i didn't state anything about supernatural power, i was saying, humans will live our natural course of life and then die,

playing god like we're doing now ain't gonna help anybody in the end, modern science will be the fall of humanity, i'd be willing to bet my aviation funds on that.

Science.
What we eat changes.
What we use and what we do.

Re: Time or Science

I would like to believe in fate but i have to say, science dominates. Everyone is build differently ...perhaps as god intend. some are more sensitive to alcohol and drugs while others are more susceptible to lung cancer to smoking. Overall, it's in the genes

Re: Time or Science

...what is with the tendency to put everything versus "science"? I don't think some people actually understand the philosophy of science...

It's like science is the new god or something. A magic word you can say and everyone will know whatever the hell you're talking about.

I believe that people die when it's their time to go.

For example, my aunt has been smoking for years. She still smokes even after having breast cancer. But she's still alive.

Then there's my dad. He exercised and ate healthy all of his life. Even as a working adult, he made time to lift weights every other day. He never ate anything particularly sugary, and he always rested when he was tired. He died two years ago of heart disease, which no one (including him) even knew he had.
