I am a radical feminist ally.

I think it's great how we've got like three pages of people trying to tell feminists what feminism is when they haven't read more than a sentence of feminist literature/theory/discussion in their lives.

Why shouldn't women have equal rights?

Why is that?

I would never call my self a feminist. Feminists are power hungry bitches on par with some religious leaders. I would consider myself a women's rights advocate if the question ever came up, but feminist? never.

Uh, I was referring to your use of "bitch."

I don't call myself a feminist but I think it should be more equal, same pay for same job.

Two reasons:

Firstly, the tone of the phrase is undeniably patronizing.

Secondly, from my observations, the phrase has been almost exclusively used to mock those who for example; point out that men too can fall victim to crimes such as rape and domestic violence - which I find reprehensible.

It is used to mock those who attempt to dominate feminist discussions by bringing up the fact that men (rarely compared to women) are victims of DV/rape/etc, as if that somehow makes the suffering of women irrelevent. "WHAT ABOUT TEH MENZ?!" mocks the idea of "Patriarchy hurts men, too, so buck up and quit crying about it" -- because that's absolute bullshit.

And this is coming from a male victim of abuse.

If a feminist by definition is a person who believes women should have equal rights, as men, then sure, I'm a feminist.

Then I guess a masculinist it a person who believes men should have equal rights as women.

Feminism started off when women wanted the right to vote, right? Susan B. Anthony and friends.

Today I don't see much inequality, except in economics. Doesn't a woman get paid around 74 cents for every dollar a man makes in the U.S.?

Now if we wanted women and men to be culturally and socially equal, there might be a problem.

So suppose men and women were socially equal.

What happens when a 25 year-old man is having sex with a 16 year-old? Huge jail or prison time. What happens when a 25 year-old female has sex with a 16 year-old guy? Less jail time or less prison time, longer trial sentences, etc.

In this case, I'm not sure if feminists want that.

And, with women and draft, wasn't it cases like in World War II, women were drafted, but, not as soldiers, but as nurses? Heh..

I'd say I am a feminist by the definition I kept reading about on the first page. I believe men and women should share equal rights.

Yet I'm tired as hell with people who some how magically think we live in a world where everyone is equal. That evolution all made every human exactly the same. We should be treated equal, but in no way do I believe that all humans are equal.

My last sentence isn't as "evil" as it may sound.
