Why in America is pornography legal but prostitution illegal?

They are both basically getting paid for money.

I think it may be the fact that the government can tax porn but not prostitution. I'm not sure but does anyone else have any ideas as to why?

Because obviously pornstars can get diseases as well as prostitutes.

maybe its because people who are really screwed money-wise are usually the ones who become prostitutes. however, the government wants these people to attempt to get a job and try to lead better lives instead of resorting to prostitution. not to mention the STDs you could get, and also because it helps to charge people who run child prostitution rings and prostituton rings where women are forced into it with a crime. if prostitution were legal, these people might somehow find technicalities to escape getting charged.

and as far as i know, all pornstars are tested for STDs. i heard that it is a law that they have to be, but im not sure if that's true.

Yeah but a pornstar can be checked for aids today... have sex with a guy with aids tonight and get the job tomorrow. The aids still have a chance of spreading...

thats true. but thats not the main reason prostitution is illegal thats just an added bonus that it cuts down on STDs.

and most porn stars actually have health care and actually do get checked over for diseases because they are in a legal business.

Prostitution is illegal in the America because America believes that prostitution is the exploitation of women, and therefore immoral. dont ask why cause i don't know

When mixed martial arts was banned in the US the contests were held in private. With no controls people frequently died or were permanently injured. When MMA became legal fights had to have medical screening, doctors and EMTs on hand, regulated officiating, etc. Since, in the US there haven't been and deaths or permanent injuries as a result of MMA.

Prostitution is not legal in most of the US (it is legal in parts of Nevada). Women are subjected to horrible circumstances, STDs are spread, and a spirit of lawlessness is engendered. In Nevada none of this happens. Prostitution is perfectly safe with the proper oversight. It is also perfectly taxable.

It is illegal because puritanical americans force their beliefs on others even when the results are clearly disastrous for everyone. Their tyranny should be responded to in the same way any other harmful tyranny should be.

I think prostitution and pornography should be legal, personally.I don't think it's taxed, but it's treated a lot like an actual job. Brothel owners can only be in certain places, need licenses, the prostitutes get special health benefits, etc. - at least, according to my friend that lives in Holland. It's really well-regulated.
