Drug testing

In schools, at work, it's everywhere. BUT, here are some important questions to think about, just to get started.

1)Do you approve of drug tests being administered, whether randomly or otherwise, to employees or students?
2) Do you believe that there is any situation in which a drug test is acceptable?
3) Do you believe there is any situation (in which it is currently used) when it is NOT acceptable?
4) Do you think that the results of drug tests should be legal to use as reason for not hiring or firing a person (or refusing them admission to a school/expelling them).

Please keep things civil and intelligent! These are just a few guideline questions, if you have other issues, go for it.

Re: Drug testing

1.) Yes.
2.) Yes it is acceptable at school, work, and sports and wherever else it's currently used.
3.) No.
4.) Yes. Why should someone hire someone if they use drugs? Drugs can be addictive, and impair one mentally. Not to mention most drugs people use to get high are illegal. I wouldn't want such a person working at my business if i had one. Same with school.

People shouldn't use illegal drugs simple as that.

People who are abusing drugs should know that they are very likely to get fired, it's just a fact.

Re: Drug testing

If it is a private institution, they have the right to set any conditions they like for entering employment or becoming a student. So while I personally don't like the idea (aside from tests to see if people are under the influence of drugs on the job) I can't justify banning it.

Re: Drug testing

1) I approve of it as far as drugs could impair an employee's ability to do a job properly or could give a sports person or student an unfair advantage.
2) In sports and in jobs where taking drugs could impair your ability. I don't think it makes sense for students to take illegal drugs in the first place, I can only think they'd have a detrimental effect. (Though I stand to be corrected on that.)
3) Just testing people from the public to see if they've been taking drugs. Drug testing should generally stay with private organisations.
4) I think, that if the drug would impair their ability to do the job they have every right to. I don't think that people should be expelled or refused admission to schools if they have positive reading drug tests. I'm not going to expel a kid who takes cocaine, that's their problem. Of course, private schools are welcome to do what they like really, but then that's going into my problem with private education

Why shouldn't they have the right to get them to have a drug test?

At my school a girl got expelled for turning up being high, and having cannabis on her. Which is not acceptable, so why shouldn't she have been expelled?

That's a legal issue to do with the police. That doesn't mean she should be put out of an education.
