Are the male victims of domestic violence ignored?

1 in 6 men will fall victim to domestic violence, and in the UK during 2006/07; 38 men were murdered by their partners.

Personally, I feel that the male victims of domestic violence are largely (and wrongly) ignored by the media.

Re: Are the male victims of domestic violence ignored?

Male victims of domestic violence are definitely ignored. 1 out of every 6, didn't think it was that high. But still...

The media does completely ignore male victims of violence. Of the several times I have watched the news, I have very rarely seen a story about a male attacked by a female in a relationship.

I wouldn't make a judgement until I saw the stats for female victims.

Yeah it is horribly ignored and not just by the media I don't think. I don't think anyone realizes how bad it is (well not anyone, just alot of people) and alot of stupid people think its just a joke. Alot of abuse towards men (of all kinds) is ignored. it really is rediculous.

Apparently, 1 in 4 women will fall victim to domestic violence, and 104 women were murdered by their partners in the UK during 2006/07.

While these statistics are a lot higher, I still find it scandalous that domestic violence is almost without exception portrayed as: man = culprit, woman = victim.

I recently contacted the Home Office regarding two publicity campaigns about domestic violence, which ignored male victims. A copy of my e-mail can be read here.

This a good video on the subject:

Re: Are the male victims of domestic violence ignored?

In that case, yes I do think it's a problem that it's overlooked generally by the media. But the media overlooks loads of things...what are we going to do :/

I agree with the video in it's frustration that the issue is being simplified, and that the issue is also being overly terrorised, although reading the adverts didn't make me feel offended in the sense that I was being accused, just that they were clearly one-sided (surprisingly so, I must admit). A bit ranty too...

Yeah, i think it is overlooked.

In alot of cases, when a women is being abused my her husband, if she leaves him she would go back to him. Which just makes things worse.
