It started off with simply family issues. These problems he had got him deppressed so I guess he might have thought drugs would relieve his sad mood. His parents disapproved of his bad grades and blamed it on his constant preoccupation with hanging out with the "wrong crowd." They found some of his drugs in the room one day and they got into a bitter argument with him. As punishment he wasn't allowed to do anything. No more phone, no more internet, no hanging out with friends or anything that could be used for recreation. He was totally isolated. He got into a even bigger deppression and ran away. So in a way the drugs did cause the problem, although it wasn't because drugs effected his judgement, it was just because of Aidans reaction to his parents decision about the drugs they found.

You can use any god damn drug you please, its all about your relationship with it. If you want to get swept away by it, you'll get swept away by it. I am a recreational (sometimes medicinal) cannabis smoker, I do it because I enjoy it, not to make me happy or feel better, just because I enjoy it.

Also, its your body, if you want to enjoy some drugs, enjoy some drugs. Hallucinogens can be very powerful tools of healing if used correctly, they can also be used to look deeper within oneself. Anything can be abused.

People use all sorts of things to just "let go", drugs are some peoples choices. I enjoy smoking after a long day, just to let go of the bullshit and enjoy life for a little while. The same as someone else plays video games, watches TV, has a drink etc.

Also, if you are going to be doing ANY drugs, do your research before you decide to embark. Avoid the official government websites, usually full of absolute bullshit. If you plan on doing a hallucinogen, read trip reports, have some sort of idea of what you may encounter. Don't go jumping in the deep end without at least some prior experience. Common sense.

Cannabis certainly isn't the best pain killer,
Being a mmj patient myself I can say from experience cannabis more or so takes your mind off the pain... and even to do this you need very high levels of cbd..

For soldiers with their limbs blown off, cannabis.isnt gonna cut it... they need morphine (real pain relief) that not only takes your mind off the pain, but eliminates it..

He didn't say it was the best, and to even consider it as the best is retarded. Its fantastic for moderate to low pain. I used it for my sciatic nerve pain, that even 3 panadols and 2 nurofen couldn't touch, worked beautifully.
