Cold Turkey
so i know someone that wants to give up smoking and she's serious but she wants to do it by cold turkey. Has anyone tried giving up things by this and how effective is it? or does it depend upon the person?
The person i know is determined and i think she could give up smoking but if she used the patches or soemthing, she says she's trying cold turkey to see what it's like and to see how strong she is, but i think she might just give in 'cos she's really addicted to cigarettes at the moment, has about 40 a day.

Re: Cold Turkey
i tried, and to be honest. it didn't last more than 4 days. I was determined too, but i guess that wasn't enough. i started doing the whole hand thing pretending i had a cigarette. i guess i got so used to it. i've become mentally dependent on it :/
props for her, if she makes it. though i'm a little skeptic too

Re: Cold Turkey
My sister did it, she hasn't smoked in 3 months. My dad's girlfriend did it too. It doesn't work for everybody though. The problem with patches is that they are still getting a source for the nicotine and so you are just swapping one habbit for another. If she is going on patches she'll need to begin to reduce the amount she uses over time obviously.

Re: Cold Turkey
Better off gradually cutting down. Cold turkey only works for people who arnt really addicted, they just smoke for the sake of doing it lol
