Re: Does lifting weights stunt your growth?
I think it's just a myth, what about Arnold Schwarzenegger he's tall isn't he? It's probably the opposite, because running after a while and stuff is more compression than lifting weights

Re: Does lifting weights stunt your growth?
Arnold is actually really short, I'm 5'7 and I'm taller then him, he just looks big in the movies.
Weight lifting can stunt your growth if you start extremely early and do the wrong exercises.
for example, no kid should be squatting weight untill he is 14, if a 9 year old seriously started hitting heavy weight, his bones would calcify and stop growing. That what happens when you lift weight, your bones get thicker, and if kids start to young, their growth plates will also close early.
the best thing for kids to do to stay strong is simple, just play outside. its so simple to go out and play soccer or football, or basketball and get strong and stay in shape, and its fun. weightlifting shouldn't be done untill a kid gets into highschool.

Re: Does lifting weights stunt your growth?
There is some belief that lifting heavy at a young age can damage the growth plates in bones.. Personally from what I've read; lift weights, just don't get too heavy (1 rep max's and as such.) Also I would avoid any sort of heavy squats until fully developed and ensure proper form..

I promise you he isn't 6'2
He has said all of his life he is 6'2 to keep his image up, and movie companies pushed the same, what companie wants everyone to know their star muscleman and predator hunter arny is only 5'6
you have to look at what he did before acting, he was a pro body builder, tall people do not do well in body building as much as short people because of the way their body's are structured, tall people can be muscular, but rarely like arnold was in his prime.
my best friend went to a fencing tournament of his and shook hands with Arnold and he noticed he was as tall as me, I'm 5'7.

Re: Does lifting weights stunt your growth?
I highly doubt it.
Otherwise, pro wrestlers/football players would be fucking midgets. =/

pro football players aren't as muscular as pro bodybuilders, They would be muscle bound and unable to run, pro bodybuilders can barely move, just watch them.
pro wrestlers arent pro bodybuilder size either, they're muscular, but they're no where near someone like ronnie coleman.
