Wii Fit
Haven't seen anything about Wii Fit around the boards so I decided to post a topic about it.
Me brothers n I got it for my mum, and I'll admit that I've been using it more than her. I play tennis 3-4 times a week, and on my off days it's something nice to use for just 30 minutes or so to get an easy workout.
For those who don't know how it works:
You have a ballance board, which detects how much weight you're putting on each side of your body. The board can calculate your BMI (body mass index) and your weight.
The whole idea is that your posture is very important, and improving it will improve your health.
For Strength/Yoga you are able to pick from a male/female instructor who teaches you how to do the work-out routine. You can repeat these or skip them from the get-go
There's also different "types" of play.
-Aerobics: Get the heart going, mostly fun exercises like Hoola Hooping, etc.
-Strength-Lot of basic workouts, like crunches/push ups, and a lot which I've never heard of before. Most of them aren't too hard, but if you push yourself or do the exercise multiple times you'll get a nice workout.
-Ballance- Mostly fun games to improve your ballance
-Yoga: Suprisingly, this game to me as my favorite on the game. You have different workouts/stretches. It starts off easy, but gets very hard very fast. I find that you just need to ignore the scores and try your best. The Yoga will deffinitely give a nice little stretch, at least, for everyone.
Each day you have an optionary "weigh in" which will tell you your central ballance, BMI, and you have an optionary ballance game. If you go through the entire "weigh in" then you're given a Wii Fit Age. The Age is basically a guideline to how you're doing.
They also give you a callendar to track your settings.
At the begining of each weigh in they ask how much your clothes weigh. I usually just put 0lbs cause I wear the same type of clothes everytime I play. If you go around changing it and you're off, the game can be lead to believe you've lost a lb or two in a day =P
I've seen a lot of common q's around other places, and had a few asked by my friends, so I'm gonna try to get a few of them out of the way.
-Is it fun with friends, what can you do with friends?
There's not really any mutliplayer games other than a running game. I played with my friend Alex, and we had a good time. It's deffinitely a solo-game, but it's fun to show to friends if they're up for it.
A lot of the ballance/aerobic games can be fun.
I've found that playing the Hoola Hoop game with friends can be fun and comical.
-Do you really get a workout?
Yes, but if you try playing the game just for the scoring factors, then you won't get a full workout. There's really no point in playing it if you're not giving your 100% cause you're cheating yourself. Just have a good time, find out your favorite exercises, and get them done.
-Is this game a joke?
Meh, some of it is silly at times. The idea of sitting at home trying to get/stay fit by a videogame is absurd to some people. I personally think that most people, after they try it, will find themselves enjoying it. If you go into it with the mindset "there's no way I'm gonna like this," you probably won't. The game deffinitely isn't for everyone.
-Does it beat the gym experience?
Deffinitely not, but not everyone can afford a high priced Gym Membership. This game isn't gonna get you "ripped" or anything, but it helps keep you healthy, no doubt.
All in all, the game is enjoyable. If you're even remotely thinking about buying it, or just wan't to try it, deffinitely give it a play. I'd reccomend playing it before you buy it though, it's a lot of buck to spend on an item.
If you're fit, the gameplay may not be very challenging, but if you're not fit, this game will deffinitely help get you there.
Happy WiiFitting

Re: Wii Fit
No thanks, I'll stick to a real gym for real excercise. It's been proven that you can't get decently fit with a Wii, I'll find the article.

Re: Wii Fit
You can deffinitely get a workout from Wii Fit if you're not in top-notch condition. If you want to be fit, you can't exactly rely on just wii fit, just as you can't rely on one single exercise machine. The nice thing about it, is it's something that some may find fun and is healthy for you at the same time. It's deffinitely not everyone's game, but a videogame that benefits for your health is a fun idea.
The wii fit board can also be used for other things. There's been talk about surfing/skateboarding games. I've played the Mii Ski and I must admit that it was very enjoyable.
I like the fact that Nintendo has a hard time making an array of really solid games, so they go out on their way to try making something new and creative, even though they may not always hit the target.
