Infectious Mononucleosis

So I am 18 years old and I have been diagnosed with Infectious Mononucleosis, also known as Mono or the Kissing disease.
I have never felt worse in my life.
I've had on and off fevers for the past five days and they say that all the symptoms can last for two months time.
I feel like I am going to die but I know that is just the mono.

Has anyone else had mono and know somethings that can make it a little less terrible?
Also what are some easy foods to eat, my throat is really swollen so its really hard to swallow.

I could really use some help because I need relife and some good food asap.

The kissing disease? Isn't that glandular fever?
Or is it just another name for it. :s

NO that is another name for it too.
Most people where I am from call it mono or the kissing disease because that is how it is commonly spread.

Re: Infectious Mononucleosis

Oh right.
Well I've had that about 3 times.

I can't really remember now what it was like.
Once I still went out to a club at night and passed it on to other people.
hahaha
in my defense I didn't know that's what it was then.

Anyway the antibiotics should start to help soon?
Try and just sleep or whatever. Read and watch tv to help take your mind off of how you feel.
Ice cubes are nice too. Suck them.

Re: Infectious Mononucleosis

Mono is a virus that has no antibiotics.

Thats why I need some ideas on how to relive the pain and get rid of this horrid fever.

And how did you get it three times?

Thats like getting the chicken pox twice.

Re: Infectious Mononucleosis

Hmm, you can't get it more than once?
I've def been diagnosed with it twice by a doctor...and was given antibiotics. I don't think they made a difference tbh.

I don't really know what you can do.Apparently yoghurt is soothing.
& I've had chicken pox twice. That is possible, just unsual. I think I just get diseased easily.

Re: Infectious Mononucleosis

I was really sick for two weeks this month and my doctor thought I had mono, but I didn't. Every test they gave me for various things came back negative. It was strange. I think she didn't swab my throat right and I had something that was detected and because I was started and then stopped on antibiotics I ended up with a super infection of whatever I had because it was really bad. I literally couldn't swallow anything for days because it was the worst pain I ever had and went without eating and barely drank anything. I also had insanely high fevers that entire time.

Anyways, sorry for going off topic. To try and help your throat you should try gargling with some salt water. Also, take tylenol, it will help with the fever and with the pain. Try to avoid anything that contains asprin as it's bad for your liver I believe. Tylenol is your best bet, but if you can't take that take something with Ibeprofen in it, such as Motrin.

Depending on how bad the pain in your throat is you might be able to get your doctor to give you something better for the pain. When I was sick earlier this month mine gave me a prescription for Tylenol mixed with Codiene to help ease the pain, it did a little for the first few days. Another thing your doctor might give you is a lidocane mouth wash to help numb your throat. You can also buy sprays and lozenges that contain things to numb your throat.

The best thing you can do is try and rest. Also, don't move too much because if you move a lot and attempt to do some sort of physical activity such as sport(which I doubt you will do anyways but apparently in 2002 someone won an Olympic gold medal while having mono o.O) you risk rupturing your spleen.

I hope I was able to help at least a little, being sick is horrible, and that you get better soon!

It's possible for it to flare up more than once, just not very likely. Once you get mono it stays dormant in your system for the rest of your life. Only between 1 and 2% of people get it more than once.

Re: Infectious Mononucleosis

oh yah i had it a year ago from overtraining. My immune system was so weak and i encountered mono but i continued to train and it turned to chronic fatique syndrome. Make sure you get plenty of rest. I didnt have such a sore throat from mine but i had a nagging couch where i would couch for like 30 minutes before being able to freakin breathe. The cough is rare with mono but my sore throat had went away in a day. The only thing they can really do for it is rest. And trust me the more u rest the faster you will heal. When i didnt give my body a rest i prolonged the disease until it lasted for 6 months until i had adequate energy to resume my normal activities.

I had mono when I was little, and I don't know how because I never kissed people. I guess I just got through with it as if I had another cold. I dunno, I hardly remember.
