What's wrong with Starbucks? They have the best coffee. Why fight it?

Umm... because when Starbucks opens a new coffee shop, the local indepandant shops lose business and are often forced to close. That's like, someone's job and livelihood gone. The varying characters atmospheres are also lost... Starbucks coffee shops all look the same; what's interesting about that?

Starbucks, despite all the "ethical" crap it comes out with, like so many other huge corporations, is as far as I know, is still taking part in unethical practises like unfair trade with coffee farmers who could really do with the money. They're very keen to tell you with a glossy marketing campain how much they support fair trade coffee, but only about 6% of the coffee they sell is fair trade. :/

Yes Starbucks may well soon be the "best" coffee, but only when all the other coffee shops are closed. For now I've had plently of better cups. :]

Yay. Found some. And Starbucks is so over-rated. EVERYONE goes there.

They don't have the best coffee. The majority of the beverages they sell, such as their frapachinos, don't even contain actual coffee, but a coffee powder thing. They coffee they do sell typically isn't bought at fair trade price, but at a significantly lower price, as was already stated. Those actions are just exploiting the people that they buy the coffee for, and if you know anything about coffee, you'll know that it takes a lot of work to produce a sellable product.

In addition to that, what they sell tastes horrible. Most people who actually like coffee wouldn't buy anything from there, except maybe a cup of black coffee, because as I already stated, their other beverages typically don't even contain coffee.
