Is the smoking ban good, or bad? Is it encroaching on our individual freedoms? | Because second hand smoking poses a health risk for people, I think that there should be some very seperate areas of like a restaurant where people want to smoke. That's been happening for awhile and seems to be going just fine, so I don't really think the ban is necessary... |

Do I think it should be banned outside? No. You don't like it, walk around if you honestly think 2 seconds of passing through second hand will kill you. Because smoke rises up, it will be up and out of the way in a few seconds. In restaurants, well maybe but you could always just build a partition, i.e. another room with separate ventilation. Thats what Buffalo Wild Wings does here.

This ban is something that has been coming for a long time, and now it's here, there really ain't much that can be done about it. Britain goes smoke-free on July 1st. I, personally, don't see as many people walking around with a cig in their mouth/hand as I used to ten years ago, but it seems like every white teenage girl [I'm not being offensive; I have a lot of friends who do exactly this] around the area I live in smokes 6-7 a day. I wonder what they're gonna do now that they aren't even allowed to smoke in school.
I'm totally for the ban in restaurants, because I'm asthmatic to the extent that I find it physically impossible to breathe if anyone within a five metre radius of me is smoking and I am sat down. I can literally feel my throat contracting and I have to leave that area for the next ten minutes, at the very least. I think it's just tobacco smoke that does that to me though, because I've been around my cousin when he does all sorts of shit, and I've never felt as fucked as I do when there's cig smoke.
A lot of people are saying that this ban will cut the number of smokers. Anyone else think that? |

Is the smoking ban good, or bad? Is it encroaching on our individual freedoms? | Smoking should be banned in all inside buildings (other than homes, but including apartments/condos/etc) at the very least. If people want to kill themselves, they can do it without (or minimally) harming other people. |

No.
You decided to smoke, YOU deal with the consequences. |

Money: -2,079 | Re: Smoking Ban I think telling someone they can’t smoke outside is absolutely ridiculous. I can see why someone wouldn’t want you to be able to smoke in a restaurant if they are not a smoker but outside I can’t see why they care. I go to a lot of the clubs in D.C. to see music and it really makes me mad that we now have to step outside for a smoke and miss the band. In my opinion, if you are going to go be in that type of environment you should expect to get a little dirty and (OHMYGOD) possibly get some second hand. If you don’t like it then don’t come out. Every time I go out to take a smoke break there is a least 20 people standing out there. Seems to me that the majority of people that come out to these shows are smokers … and I know at some venues they won’t even let you go out to take a smoke break. They, of course, leave this information out while they are serving you alcohol, and boy do the drunks get mad. |

we shouldn't have to deal with the consequences of your actions, YOU should.
take your own advice.
if you don't like going outside to smoke; don't come / stop smoking.
YOUR choice. |

it's a health issue, not a 'majority wins'. |

I don't care how many times you tell me that it's your right to smoke as you please, I would never let my health be over looked for your act of pleasure. I know a lot of people who get sick from inhailing smoke from people simply around them. In my town, smoking isn't permitted inside, any buildings. It should be like that everywhere. |
