I'm worried about my best friend, Daniel.
We have been friends for years, and he's always been a cheerful, talkative person. Lately he's been acting really strange. He almost never smiles and never says much anymore. When I ask him what's wrong, he changes the subject or snaps at me.

I have no idea if it has anything to do with it, but his mom just married some guy. They had been dating for awhile and got married a couple weeks ago. Not long after, Daniel's personality changed.
His mother has never been nice to him, always calls him 'worthless' and stuff like that. It has never bothered him though...
His new Step-Dad seems nice... He's always happy and when I'm over at his house, his Step-Dad talks all nice to him and me, but Daniel gets nervous when he enters the room.
I know I'm probably assuming the worst...but...
Does anyone have any good advice for how to approach him about this, or maybe you know what else could be going on?

try just casually asking him how he feels about his step-dad, and then lead in that you're a bit worried, you think since he's come in dan's life that he's been a bit different.

I'm suspecting shenanigans with the new fazha.

I'll try that. He should be dropping by on Tuesday, maybe I'll pull him aside and try to talk to him then. Thanks.
