Getting dressed in front of family
At home I have my own bathroom and bedroom however when we go on vacation we stay in one room. Myself, mum, dad and older bruv.
I am not feeling so comfortable nowadays about undressing in front of my mum, let alone my bruv and dad.
Is anyone else happy for their immeidate family to see them naked?
I am 14 and a late developer, so not really happy with anyone seieng my bod..
Beth

Re: Getting dressed in front of family
I don't think alot of people are, can't you change in the bathroom when nobody is in there?
I hate undressing in front of my mother.. and well I NEVER will in front of my father/brothers.

Re: Getting dressed in front of family
Why don't you change in the bathroom and lock the door? I don't see any excuse to get dressed in front of your family when there is an option.

you could get wake up earlier than them , or just take your clothes into the bathroom and get changed in their like the others have suggested, there are ways around it

Re: Getting dressed in front of family
Yeah - I know the bathroom is an option, but i dont really wanna make an issue of it.
The rest of family seem comfortable in front of each other - but then their bods are developped.
My brother says things like 'Your boobs are starting to show beth - not long til you can wear a proper bra'
I just die.......

Re: Getting dressed in front of family
Wow.. that is weiiiird.. My mom hasn't seen me since I was 12, and that is ONLY because I broke my collarbone and she sometimes needed to help me undress to shower.

Re: Getting dressed in front of family
Hi Bethyx,
I reckon what others have already suggested would be the way to go. Make use of the bathroom. I can see how it would seem as though your making an issue about you not feeling comfortable with undressing and etc in front of your other family members. Especially if your brother is making comments about your 'late-development'. It would be likely that he would make comment to you dressing in the bathroom as a solution to your not feeling comfortable aswell. While making the situation seem like an issue if you dress in the bathroom, I think that your family should be understanding. While an 'issue' could be made of it the first time/s you dress in the bathroom as a solution to your problem your family will get over it - they'll take it as a changing in the times (maturing, etc).
Also, a question. 'If you've started having your periods you could inititally (as a reason for your dressing in the bathroom) use this as a reason for you dressing in the bathroom ? Just a thought. Even if you haven't started having periods you could use the excuse of it and then if your mum should talk etc to you about it (give you supplies etc) you could tell her what's really going on. Depending on the relationship you have with your mum but I would think most mum's would be understandings.
Just maybe don't 'announce' your feelings to your whole family when they're together.. let your mum have a quiet word to everyone else. If your brother does make comment about you dressing in the bathroom instead - if it upsets you and he's sees that he should stop and realise that it's a personal thing.
Hope some of that helps, but some form of communication does kinda need to be made, wether verbal or through your actions. Just be confident about it. I would feel the same way if I was to dress in front of the rest of my family. It's really uncomfortable, and just not on for me. Mind you I was an early developer and that made me uncomfortable as opposed to your late developing situation.
Good Luck
Bindy

Re: Getting dressed in front of family
I don't change in front of my family. I don't so much care if it is pants or something, but I tend not to if I have to change my shirt. I would without freaking out over it if I had no other choice, though. It's not a matter of it being "awkward" or "uncomfortable"... I just think that my brother and parents have no desire to see me without a shirt on. Like I said, I don't really care about pants, because I change my pants all the time with my bedroom door open. Hah.

Re: Getting dressed in front of family
I'm not HAPPY for them to see me in bra and underwear walking around the house-- we all do it.
Me, my mom and dad. Like it's normal in my house.
