If you have enough money to afford a game, and still have enough left, it shouldn't be a problem. Explain to her that you can actually be responsible with money (which i hope you can), and that it's yours to spend.
I've had the same discussion with both my parents. Usually i'd just ask them them if they'd rather have me downloading stuff illegally or be legal and pay for it. it could help. |

To "connect a bridge" with you, I was a major video game addict. It all began with the free online games, however, eventually evolved into games involving monthly payments. My parents hated the idea that I was spending money on these games for being "just pixels on a screen". They too believed I could have spent my money on something more productive.
I hated the idea though; Games put you into a different psychological world and there is a lot to like about them, parent's just don't understand. Games are more interesting that pong and pac-man now. I continued gaming, and eventually they got over the fact, but to be honest, it tore my family apart. I'm glad you are not addicted anymore, at least you have self control to monitor yourself. But for your mother, the only logical method towards an agreement is interaction. You must remind her that you enjoy games. There is absolutely nothing wrong with gaming if you control your game-time as you do. Explain to her that it is something you enjoy and you feel that the entertainment is worth the amount of money.
It is not her decision as to where your money goes (unless you're 18, that's a different story), and there is no "magical" cure to satisfy your mother's point-of-view. With time, she will get used to it. There is nothing else you can do but tell her straight forward. |
