However every day at football practice I have an upperclassmen giving me shit. Like its not a big deal, what gets me is I'm not sure if it's personal or he's just going hard.
For example we'd do blocking drills and he'd block real hard and pretty much grab my pads and try to get me to the ground. Another example I was running a route as a part of a drill and he "gets hands" by literally shoving me down.
Most people just go 50-75% effort and this kid's trying to throw me down. I think it is because I'm just starting the sport and I'm not good yet thus the lack of respect but it's starting to piss me off, upperclassmen or not. I mean if this was a freshman or someone I know I'd just be all "the fuck dude?" but I'm trying to be respectful and all but im tired of it and im tempted to just go off on the dude.
I try not to react you know just take it with a grain of salt but it really bothers me having a guy on the team who I don't know if he's got it out for me or is just going hard.
I'm just wondering what I should do to gain some respect not only from this guy but from upperclassmen in general. I mean most dont give me trouble but I dont really know any of them either due to my moving. (we all come from pretty much the same middle schools) |

If you start getting pissed off, it's just going to make him happier. Just don't bow your head and take it; laugh your ass off about it, because you know what? Even though he seems like he's got it out for you, it's really not personal (I mean, he doesn't even know you). It's all in good fun. He'll see that you're not taking it personal, and that's where the respect will come from.

Besides, he probably similarly to you-- very little respect, until he went out and earned it by performing exceptionally well in football and being a bad-ass.
I mean, if you want respect, just do really good by practice. Make a work out routine, get buff. Again, start with owning your fellow freshmen, then moving up from there. Take everything with a good humor. You probably won't be able to take down a senior in your first year of high school anyway.

This is how hazing starts btw, you may make it through your highschool years just fine, but you may see your school on the news years from now for seniors shoving bananas up freshmans asses as part of their new ritual. |

Freshman year I had freshman games on Thursdays, but I was one of the "good" freshman so I had to practice with varsity BEFORE my game. The biggest senior lineman on my team fucking smashed my nose and made it bleed before my freshman game, and I had to do full on hitting drills before it. Then I had to play the game and I went against this massive mother fucker and held my own. You just need to be tougher, and once you reach sophomore year you'll be stronger and will be able to stand up for yourself |
