So me and my friend were bored so we went on kik we started to talk to this one guy. I continued to talk to him after she left and we have been talking for almost the whole summer. We have gotten really close over those few months. I never expected to get close or anything. But, when my friend used the kik accout we just used a random picture of some girl from google cause obviously we didn't want any creeps ya know? Well now here comes my problem, the other week he told me he has stage 3 pancreatic cancer. I feel even more terrible about lying to him about the picture and yeah. I felt conflicted on if I should tell him the truth or not cause he doesn't need another thing to be upset about. I would like to think he would be understanding but yeah :/ what should I do ? Yea, I agree with everyone, just tell him. He'll understand, people know about how there are creeps on the internet, and you need to protect yourself from people you don't know, and now you know him so it's better.

I think what you should do really depends on how well you actually know this guy. Do you trust that he wouldn't lie to you about something like that? There are a lot of people online who might try to use a sad story to gain sympathy in order to manipulate people. A summer of only talking online is not a very good basis to actually get to know someone. Honestly I'm not sure that you really need to tell him right now, if the two of you are not planning on meeting in person I'm not sure why it matters that he doesn't know what you look like. If you two really know each other well, then it doesn't matter what you look like because he doesn't talk to you for your looks, and you initially lying to him about the picture had nothing to do with him and was simply something you did to protect yourself from potential predators. I understand why you feel conflicted, but I don't think this is a particularly big deal. To me there's no real reason to make a big production over spilling the beans. If you two do ever decide to meet in person (and I cannot stress enough how CAREFUL you should be with decisions like that) then you can tell him about the photo. By that time hopefully it will be such water under the bridge that it won't even matter and the two of you can laugh about it. But don't feel bad, you haven't done anything wrong.

She only did it once in the entire post. It was likely a mistake.

As others have said, I'd be honest with him in not being honest bothers you. You two have been talking long enough that he likely enjoys talking to you for your personality, not your looks.

In my opinion, it will be good for you to understand exactly the problem of your friend that causes disappointed. if your friend likes watching something that is funny and romantic and he is living in abroad then it will be good to send him/her the type of pictures.
