My dad

I'm sixteen and my sister (aged 15) live with my father. My mother died when i was a baby and i have been living with my father ever since and i have always considered him to be a good father.

Recently i found a video with the rest of the old videos we have and it had my name on it. Thinking it was a fun one of me, i was curious as to what exactly was in the video and i put it on and to my horror i found it was a video of me and my sister, at a very very young age, completely naked and getting me and my sister to touch each other and he was also touching us.

I was completely shocked by this video as i can't believe the man who i've always considered a good father and who has never ever hurt me would have done something like this to me and now i don't know what to do. Do i confront my father on this? I'm scared to even talk to him about it and dont' know who else to turn to. Would someone help? My sister does not know i have found this video and i am not sure i even want her to know.

Maybe there's a family friend you can go to. I wouldn't advise you to show your sister just yet though as it could easily ruin the relationships between you all.
Also if there is video proof i would 100% definitley say you should go to the police. It's disgraceful that anyone should be allowed to get away with this because you might hate me for saying this but if he did it to you then, he could very easily be doing it to other young children now. It's a very serious matter and it shouldn't be ignored. You never know what other children may be put through trauma because you didn't say anything.

I don't know if i can report him. He's always been so good to us...for me to see this video is a shock to me that he had actually done this to us...

This is wrong on so many levels, and I cannot imagine the pain you are going through right now, to think the man that raised you could do this.

I would def confront him about this, that way, you know which way to go from there.

I can't imagine how you feel at the moment but you have to do it. As much as you want to believe that it was a one off thing, its highly unlikely. He probably stopped once you reached a certain age but you need to think of other girls that age. I am so sorry to be the bitch who brings it up but its so likely that he's moved on to other kids still that age, you got to help them and protect kids who might come across it in the future. Just think about it please.

If you're going to confront him, make sure the tape is hidden somewhere only you would know where it is.

Because if he reacts in a violent way, or something, he won't get the tape and destroy it. But he does need to be reported, because it'll be like a "what if?" the rest of your life probably if you don't.

I Be sure to talk to an adult you trust before the police. Someone who would definitely not know about this...like one of your friends moms. I would make sure you talk to a female adult, I should say.

My advice is to NOT talk to him about it. I know he's your dad and all, and you love him very much, but what if he DOES get violent? The last thing you need is to get smacked around. People like him obviously have a couple screws loose, you can never predict their actions. Go to the police with the tape. You'll probably save some children from being abused. If he's okay to do that to his own children, he's definately okay with doing it to someone elses kids. I would talk to the police about it. That's very wrong, and he can't be that good of a dad if he used to molest you AND tape it.

Wow this is serious stuff...what he has right there is child pornography and its also child abuse because he made you do it.
What I would suggest is going to a family member that you trust or even one of your friend's parents.
You could even go to a teacher and just talk it through with them about what you found and share your worries with them.
This problem needs to be addressed though because although it was a while ago he could still be capable of doing this again and may have other videos...
