  • Not sure why you're kicking up a fuss over this. These viruses are specific for bacteria, so I don't see what the big deal is. Before this, viruses have been used as antibiotic replacements (phage therapy - though its kinda outdated now tbh) as well as attempted cancer treatments, so in my humble opinion, treating meat with bacteriophages doesn't really excite me too much. Sorry. Also, as everyone has already mentioned, it is generally agreed that viruses are non-living.

  • Quote from max123987: “A very long post, you were right. Lol.” Haha, sorry! There were a lot of points to cover! :p Don't worry though, not all my posts are huge blocks of text like that. I just felt that I really had to clear all that stuff up. That video on the first post was extremely misleading!

  • Unfortunately, that video you posted doesn’t really support your case unless you genuinely believe that preventative medicine hasn’t advanced at all in the last 30+ years. I’m going to try and address the main points as clearly as I can, but sorry in advance if you think I begin to sound a bit patronising. Not intentional, honest! Also, WARNING: MASSIVE POST AHEAD! Okay, let’s start! Regarding the incidence of Guillain-Barre Syndrome, for those who don’t know, this is an autoimmune disease (your…

Quote from DeamonD: “Exactly why I like him... No emotions....just logic as to what actually makes sense. ....But he was the most logical (you will see why)” Ah, see? This is where we differ. I like my characters to have emotions, so I can relate to them more as a person. Quote from DeamonD: “ Simple. If it was Adrian who was the bad guy, then the countries would have simply asked Manhattan to kill him. But he would either refuse, or say he can't. If he refuses, America will think he is not on t…

Quote from DeamonD: “So..........hold on............. How are the actions of Dr. Manhattan......who sacrificed ...pretty much everything, so the world can be at peace.........make him an idiot? And how are Rorschachs actions of eventually threatening the world's peace justified? Don't get me wrong though, I like him a lot too, I am not bashing on him....BUT...I like Manhattan much more.” Firstly, he was a physicist. And everyone hates physicists. Secondly, I am reprehensibly-racist against blue …

Quote from DeamonD: “Un-possible How is he cooler? (i am not saying he is not cool, but how is he coolER)” You disappoint me. Everyone knows that Rorschach is the cooler hero. I actually didn't like Dr. Manhattan at all. I thought he was an idiot ***SPOILERS*** (BUT IF YOU DIDN'T WANT SPOILERS, WHY ARE YOU READING A THREAD ABOUT PEOPLE'S REVIEWS OF THE FILM?) :O My personal opinion of the movie was that it was an entertaining film to watch, but it dragged on for too long. I particularly liked th…

Aha, I see. We seem to have misunderstood each other. I was under the impression that you were advocating the periodic table as a perfect method of communication, hence the demonstration of all the possible problems, when your initial proposition only mentioned it as a starting point. And you have misunderstood me as trying to prove you wrong, when in fact, I was trying to prove the imperfection of using the periodic table as a mode of translation, something which, granted, you never explicitly …

Thank you for pointing out my allegedly false question, but you haven't answered why it's a false question which was what I actually asked for. I'm not being snide or sarcastic here, I'm actually genuinely curious as to why you think that's a false question. Quote from Neal: “ I don't think anyone has argued that if there is intelligent life that automatically means they are more technologically-advanced than us.” Then, what use is our periodic table as a means of translation? Quote from Neal: “…

Quote from Neal: “False question.” Why was that a false question exactly? Quote from Neal: “Of course, my point wasn't that other lifeforms with a half-completed periodic table will necessarily understand ours, either.” And as I mentioned, that's a big assumption to make. Intelligent Life does not necessarily correlate to a civilisation that has become more technologically-advanced than us. Although I need to suspend my belief slightly since I don't actually believe in other forms of intelligent…

Quote from Neal: “ Other intelligent lifeforms, if they reach to the level of discovering all the elements, will have the same periodic table composition.” That's a very big "if". What makes you so sure that we have discovered all the elements? If I'm not mistaken, we've gone as high as a relative atomic mass of 210, but most periodic tables don't account for those. What if these other species have discovered more/less. Their tables wouldn't correlate. Furthermore, as others have pointed out, th…

Even if they're healthy and not diagnosed with a disease...if they're a pain in the ass to me, then they deserve to die.” Patient: Hello, Dr. VenomX. I think I've got a flu. Are there any antibiotics you could prescribe? Doctor: What are the symptoms? Sore throat? Patient: Well, yes, I suppose... There's been a bit of pain. Doctor: Pain? Quote from Neal: “I was actually under the impression that the period table is the *same* in the universe. ” You're making the assumption that other civilisations would have arranged the elements in the same way. They may have opted to categorise for something other than relative atomic mass, or may have arranged in a line instead of a table - who knows? Unless you're using one of those spiffy periodic tables with a sample of the actual element in each box Anyway, as to the actual topic title, I…

  • Quote from Yuki: “Who gives a fuck.” Well... Quote from TheJoker: “we were invited punch was served check with poland!!!” Quote from Yuki: “He said "czech" (the country). The stuff he's shouting out in German is something along the lines of "You will not dishonor the motherland"” ...apparently, you were the first to make a point about it. But let's not nitpick. Clearly, you don't want to do this, so let's just sweep all this extra-serious Family Guy business under the carpet and pretend it never…

  • With all due respect to the writers of Family Guy, I'm fairly sure that their level of comedy doesn't assume that their viewers have a detailed knowledge of Polish history and the secession of various East European countries. And furthermore, as Maggot has already pointed out, saying "Czech was Poland" at that instance would make little sense even if you were aware of the events that occurred between these two countries. I could just as easily claim that the character said "Pansch was served" an…

  • Quote from Neal: “Is atheism and theism about whether or not 1 knows there is a God or whether or not 1 knows whether 1 believes in God?” No, I don't think it is. It can't be about "knowing" about the existence of a divine being, using the word "know" in its purest form, implying established fact. Belief in a divine being would be a form of theism, disbelief in any deity would be atheism. The difference between agnosticism and it's counterparts is the level of certainty (faith, if you will), not…

  • I'm confused. So what you're trying to say is that because there is no empirical evidence to prove or refute the existence of God/gods, concepts of theism and atheism cannot possibly exist since they require a predetermined knowledge of a divine existence? So going by that idea, we can neither be theists nor theists, but we instead all just have varying degrees of agnosticism? I'm fairly certain that can't be right...

Quote from Esmo: “Is there a limit to humour, or can anything be made funny? Are 'discriminatory' jokes always hateful?” Well, as I have mentioned several times before in other threads, 'discriminatory' jokes don't necessarily have to be hateful. It all really depends on the intention behind the joke. If it's to make people laugh, then there's no reason why it should be persecuted as a form of hate crime. However, if the 'joke' is to incite hatred or vilification of a particular race, then that …

  • Quote from snowingseason: “How can one be guilty earlier on but not guilty later?” Statute of limitations - after a certain period of time, you can't charge someone for a crime they have committed. Although some countries have removed this with regards to crimes against humanity. As for my personal opinion: Well, I don't know enough about American history to come up with an informed viewpoint. The only thing I know is that blankets infected with smallpox were distributed around to some tribes, w…

Then, the next generation is pre-human with even further genetic va…

Surely you must appreciate the irony in that? Quote from blitzkrieg kid: “so if racists make racists jokes towards blacks it's not cool? but when …
