which sport produces the best athletes?

okay so if you could pick any sport which do you think produces the best athletes? I mean the most powerful, , most agile, most fit, fastest, most flexible, etc. all of these things plus more will be taken into consideration. I would think gymnastics is impressive because of power, speed, coordination, flexibility and everything. But also swimmers are very talented and swimming works practically every muscle in your body. So i would guess triathletes , swimmers, or gymnasts.

What sport do you guys think would produce the best athletes or the most talented athletic skill? My boyfriend said in class they would choose this long distance runner who runs marathons at a 4:30 min per mile pace as the best athlete of all the olmypic athletes if thety could choose one but i kinda disagreed. Each sport requires different talents i just want to know which you guys think produces the most fit or most talented athletes and why.

Re: which sport produces the best athletes?

I think UFC fighters are incredible athetes. They have to be strong, obviously, but they also have to be fast on their feet and with the moves they make. They have to be basically everything you listed to be the best.

You watch some of those matches and it is just like woah, that's crazy. They put their bodies through hell, and back.

Re: which sport produces the best athletes?

thats an intersting one too i never thought about them. Strength is also a component. I would disagree with "bodybuilding " though only because they usually are only strong and not fast or efficient in much else. Usually they are not very flexible either. I never thought about fighting as a sport but i guess it is. :]

To expand upon this, I only say Gaelic because I was thinking in terms of ball skill with both hands and feet, with a bit of tackling thrown in to (granted the Irish aren't very tough).

Though however I'd actually just say Football, simply because the amount of Footballers that are produced. I think to become the best in the world at Football you need to be fast, agile, fit, powerful, etc.

Really hard to answer though.

Re: which sport produces the best athletes?

I would have gone for the obvious and said long distance runners, but I think it's probably boxers, very strict diet and conditioning.

NBA basketball without a doubt. Those guys have to play so many games, they run, jump, can take hits.

Basketball by far produces the best athletes.

As an avid fan of bodybuilding, I have to disagree
Bodybuilding is basically weightlifting + cardio activities such as running and rowing. Although it doesn't make you the most skillful tennis player or boxer, it builds a really good fitness for many sports. You get improved stamina, toughness, strength and speed (if big arms mean slower speed, boxers wouldn't have big arms to begin). Unless you are a gymnast freak or Olympic iceskater, I don't see flexibility as so much of a weakness.

You have to eat healthy food and get right amount of sleep to get good results which leads to more healthy body and lifestyle. I don't see any one caring about their body as much as bodybuilders.
