Yes it is compulsary to do work experience in either year 10 or 11 in England and Wales however I'm not sure about Scotland and NI as their school systems are different.

It's not actually compulsory i dont think, some people in my school aren,t doing it and the school seems okay with that. It is highly recomended though - most universities now require you to have done it to get in

My second day was just as bad, if not work - i spent 4hrs doing nothing - my mum keeps tellling me that its is 'essential for learning key skills' i now know - "when bored: play with ipod"

I think it's a good idea. I don't know of any schools in the United States that do that.

Working while going to school is a lot of fun! Great way to meet people and also balance your life up and get away with homework all the time.

Re: Work Experience blah..

Aw Sounds a bit boring.. lol.

I did secondary school drama teaching for my first week and it was brill and I loved it
Second week was primary school teaching and I enjoyed working with the younger kids. They loved me these 2 lads about 8 years old fought over me 'cos they both wanted to sit by me at dinner
I enjoyed the drama teaching though, it's more 'my thing'.
