Re: english and american years???
no no, i was in bristol england for 1 year so i know exactly how it works.
in america 8th grade, would be year 9 in england, the people are the same ages in 8th grade and year 9, and the studies are the same.
has to do with americans having 1 extra year or something i dunno exactly

Re: english and american years???
I dont see how this is confusing people:
Preschool(pretty much day care)
Kindergarten 5/6 year olds
--Elementry School--
1st grade 6/7 year olds
2nd grade 7/8 year olds
3rd grade 8/9 year olds
4th grade 9/10 year olds
5th grade 10/11 year olds
6th grade 11/12 year olds
--Junior high/Middleschool--
7th grade 12/13 year olds
8th grade 13/14 year olds
--High School--
9th grade(freshman) 14/15 year olds
10th grade(sophpmore)15/16 year olds
11th grade(junior) 16/17 year olds
12th grade(senior)17/18 year olds

Re: english and american years???
It's confusing because it's different in England but i'll put them for comparison.
Primary school
Keystage1(Infants)
Reception- 4/5 year olds
Year 1 - 5/6 year olds
Year 2 - 6/7 year olds
Keystage2(Juniors)
Year 3 - 7/8 year olds
Year 4 - 8/9 year olds
Year 5 - 9/10 year olds
Year 6 - 10/11 year olds
High school
Keystage3(Lower school)
Year 7 - 11/12 year olds
Year 8 - 12/13 year olds
Year 9 - 13/14 year olds
Keystage4(Upper school)
Year 10 - 14/15 year olds
Year 11 - 15/16 year olds
College/Sixth form
Y12/Lower sixth - 16/17 year olds
Y13/Upper sixth - 17/18 year olds
