Money: 91,523 My Mood: | AMD vs. Intel As some of you might know, a few months back I *tried* to build a PC using a Core i5, Corsair/Crucial RAM, and an Intel motherboard, and it was phail. I gave up on it and sold the motherboard and CPU.
Nao I've been considering trying again, except this time around with a new AMD mobo and CPU. I'm so used to Intel that it was quite a shock seeing how much cheaper AMD are compared to their competitor. What I'm honestly wondering is, are there really any benefits choosing one over another, or is Intel more expensive just because of the brand name? I've asked around, and Intel fanboys say AMD's chips are slow, and unstable when 0v3rkl0k3d, and AMD fanboys say Intel is evil and loves money. What say you guize? Newegg.com - MSI 785GM-E51 AM3 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

I also liked the triple channel memory compatibility on the Intel chip. It just depends?

Intel, while owning the multicore market, are not as favourable in the gaming sector because games generally aren't multithreaded. Not yet, anyway.
I run both AMD and Intel at home, though personally I have an Intel in my main machine. I have AMDs in my server and my test machine, and I put one in my mom's computer. All my AMDs are quad cores.
I would say Intel's prices are probably artificially inflated to some degree based solely on the brand. It happens in every industry, unfortunately.

They're both CPUs, they both do the exact same things. The only difference is the price, and the types of CPUs available. AMDs are cheaper, yet the underdog in the market. Intels are more expensive, but control more of the market.
You get what you pay for. I always buy Intel.
