If you are Britsih or have traveled to the UK, I need advice!!
Hey guys!
I am leaving for England on June 10th for a study abroad English program with my school. I will be there for 2 1/2 weeks and I am really excited because I have never been to Europe before. That being said, I'm an American and England has a different culture. My tour guide has already told us about how to dress (what is popular in the united states may not be acceptable in England) as I am perfectly willing to conform with the cultural standards. As far as how to act, etc. is there anything I (an American) need to know before traveling to England? Also, do you think I will stand out as a tourist?

No, maybe your fashion won't be the same as ours but that doesn't mean you can't wear it! haha we're quite a diverse culture, got lots of different styles going on so it won't matter.

Re: If you are Britsih or have traveled to the UK, I need advice!!
Lol you are free to wear WHATEVER you wish. There isn't that much you need to do really, being polite is always good, that's just customary though. Learn the money system and you'll be okay. Where abouts are you going?
Oh and voltage powers are different, so get your adapters and whatever.
Also this time of year is usually quite nice but there's always one or 2 days which catch you off guard and are cold and rainy, so make sure you bring a coat or a jacket or something.

Re: If you are British or have traveled to the UK, I need advice!!
Thanks for the advice! I will be traveling London, Cambridge, Oxford, Manchester, and the countryside. I will definitely buy an adapter!( it would be awful to arrive and find out that my blow dryer and straightener blow up lol..) My other questions are: Does Europe have purified water and pasteurized milk?

Haha devvo.
Yes our water and milk are fine to drink :S
I spose you can't drink foreign water actually but I don't think that's a problem with Americans with English is it? Someone else will have to answer that one.

Nah, if you go other places in Europe you can't drink their water...
ie. Spain.
It's the way they sterilise it different to us, so it has different chemicals in it which we are not used to and make us ill.

Re: If you are Britsih or have traveled to the UK, I need advice!!
Haha sorry I did actually laugh when you asked if we had purified water and pasteurised milk hehe - yes we do you can drink our water and milk
Manners are very important, just the usual please's and thank you's when asking for things in shops or restaurants etc.
Learn the money system, although it isn't hard we have decimilisation like in the US 100 pence = 1 pound. Things are far more expensive here, you will find, and also remember the exhange rate is around $2 = £1 so your money will seem to halve and it won't go too far either.
Things you will need:
A Water-proof Jacket - although it is likely to be quite and warm when you come it rains 1 in 3 days according to the statistics so you may be caught by our unpredictable weather!
A power adapter like already said - Not only are the voltages different but we also have different plug sockets, instead of 2-prongedplugs we use 3-pronged plugs.
This will sound stupid but I would also brush up on some phrases that are different than in America - although most people will undertsand it makes it easier for both.
I'll addmore advice when i think of it.
OH! Don't buy loads of the silly union flag merchandise if you don't want to stand out as a tourist.
Your fashions may be different but they should be acceptable aslong as you aren't half naked... you also may find it a bit colder here depending on where in the US you are from.I remember an American relative of mine coming over and wearing a coat all day
