How to get to the doctor's office... without my parents knowing.

Okay... here's my situation.
Someone on here suggested that I might have something called BDD... so I researched it and it creeped me out on how much it sounded like me. So I want to talk to my doctor, and see if he can like refer me to a therapist or someone who can like test and see if I have it or not.
But there's a problem-- I have to do all of this without my parents knowing.
I can't drive yet.
And I live kinda out in the middle of nowhere-- about 10 miles from town.

How exactly could I pull this off? Any suggestions?

I don't know of an easy way for you to go to the doctor because a) you can't drive yet and b) your medical insurance is probably through your parents.

Why can't you tell your parents? Do you feel like you can't tell them for a certain reason?

Yea i have to agree. Your going to have to tell your parents about going to the doctor's. However if your concerned about what it is just say innocent, then once you get back there explain the real situation.

well... if you really dont want ur parents to know...
you can tell someone you trust...
who can drive...
nd you count on keepin ur secret...
you can ask a close relative... or trust worthy friend...

and all you need is a good excuse as to why ur leaving the house... for your parents... just in case they ask...

What's so bad? If something is wrong with you then it would only make sense to let your parents know. Unless either:

- You want to pay a creepy person to drive you there.
- AND only if you want to pay for the medical bills yourself.

Um...Why wouldn't you want your parents to know? It's just BDD, that's not seriuos at all. I have a cousin who is a schizophrenic; that's serious.

It's not going to be possible for you to go without your parents knowing. They'll find out eventually even if you find a way there because you have to pay for doctor's visits and if you're using your parents medical insurance they'll find out.

Just tell them and have them take you.

Can you not ask them for a lift into town or something, tell them you just wana go in for a bit, and then get a bus to your doctors or walk from there.

I was also thinking last night that you could just call your family doctor for a referral, but you would never be able to get to a therapist without telling your parents unless you can foot the bills by yourself (which is highly unlikely).

I think you should just be honest with your parents about seeing someone. They may be more understanding than you think!

ANY psychological disorder is serious, so you really shouldn't underestimate BDD. It can take over peoples' lives.

I suggest you tell your parents, its the only way you can get over this.. and like u said your going to talk to your doctor.. so ur not sure yet?

And if he can refer me to someone... I might have to tell my parents. But I don't want to bring it up if theres nothing that can be done.

My parents-- especially my mom-- think that everything can be solved in the comfort of our own home. And they take things to extreme. And I don't want that... I want someone who actually knows what they are talking about.

Well, I would call your family doctor or whoever you see on a regular basis and ask if they can refer you. Then, like you said, you could present it to your parents.

Try the Internet.

Try finding a psychologist. Or a professor with a psychology Ph.D, e-mail.

Heck, try finding a psychology forum/message board. There's bound to be some psychology gurus out there.

Any psychology teachers in your school? Etc.

I feel so damn stupid. My US history teacher also teaches psychology.
And summer school JUST ended today. So I guess that's kind of out of ther picture :/
