Our shippers have quoted us £7,402 for packing then moving all our furniture all 1,000 cubic feet of it, to England. Plus 1.5% of the cost for insurance against theft/damage. This is a lot of money. But the value of our gear is IRO £18,000.
The shippers say that even if we reduce the amount to, for example, 800 cubic feet we will still have to pay as for 1,000 as it is a steel container. However, they say if we can reduce our furniture down to 600 cubic feet, we'll be paying far less.
Our dilemma is, what if we sell off 80% of our furniture as second hand and instead bring back 2 well loved sofas, dining table and 6 chairs, and my Kymco - and then buy NEW gear in England? The reason is, furniture is by far cheaper in England than in Kalymnos.
I suggested to my family to bring it all back because some of it is very loved. But they are vacillating (and driving me crackers!!).
Any suggestions appreciated.
