Money: -109 | Moving Out at 16 - Rights? Law? Hey all im new here but i have been looking around for an answer to this for a few hours, and things seem to be a bit confusing.
My situation is this.
Im 18. my girlfriend, who i have been dating for around 15 months now is 16.
She does not get on with her parents atall. Her dad has physically abused her. Countless times he has threatend her. Both her parents can lock her away. They hardly let her see me for a start. They do not have reasons for this as they think i am good for her, they do this because they know this is the only thing that can get to her and make her upset.
Now the time has come where she wants to move out. She does has places to go like aunties, nannas ect, but she feels this may be too strange.
She is welcomed in my house. My parents would openly let her live here. But the big question is would she be allowed by law?
For example if she packed and came to mine, would her parents be able to come and take her home legally?
As for her moving out is conserned, we know this is a massive step. We have lived together before at her house and this was fine. We have no issues with one another and zero intentions of ever breaking up!
Any help here would be great guys.
Thanks, |

You say they like you? Try asking them yourself if she can, so they can't just say no to her and upset her. If you ask, it makes it seem like you want it, not just your girlfriend. Plus it shows you've got the guts to do it yourself, and shows you're being mature about it.

I found several answers, but most of them seem to say this: In the UK, you're allowed to move at 16 without parents'/guardians' permissions. However depending on where in the UK, you might not be able to - but in cases of abuse and/or violence you can apply homeless at the local council and move legally to where you want, the only problem would be finding a place to live - which is not a problem in your case. Ask around in the city hall, local council, etc. and see how the rules apply exactly in your area. moving out at 16 legally "united kingdom"|uk - Google Search How old do u have to be to move out in uk? - Yahoo!7 Answers What is the legal age in the uk to move out without perants permision?
^ just an example of a couple of answers I found. I'm not sure either are reliable, but they seem to be. Double check in the local authorities. And good luck =]

Money: -9,055 | Re: Moving Out at 16 - Rights? Law? Sorry man, she's out of luck... Until she is 18, she has no right to move out without her parents consent. Emancipation is a near impossibility, so looks like her best bet is to report her abuse and hope she gets into foster care not too far away...
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news |
