Been to a counsellor

After Mummy died, my life went on the skids and I had a breakdown because I couldn't cope with her death. And that was when the drinking began. I drank to hide the pain, to blot it all out. I had low esteem and even my darling Lyra had a difficult time with me, for after work I'd be on the wine, or the Scotch again.

But one month ago I finally admitted to myself that I had a drink problem so on arrival to England back then, Lyra took me to see a counsellor. At the end of each I felt drained.

Except now I am making good progress, and though behind this computer monitor I am a painfully shy person, I wanted to share this because it is important to me.

If anyone knows of a special online help site, please could you let me know or PM me?

im sorry to hear that. I am going through the same, i understand your position completely. Over time the pain goes a bit more, seeing a councellor definitely will help. Sometimes they're the only people that understand, unless there's a genuine friend thats there of course. Its sometimes easier just chatting to people in reality or over emails or something about the problem, you know its personal then.

Man You are not alone here, I know how it feels.

Doing self destructive things because you don't care about yourself.

My life was tough and depressing. It was just an awful time and nobody seemed to care. I swear I was gonna commit suicide. Then a friend of mine took me to a gym one day. It felt so good after workout, I started to care about myself more and met friends with positive influence. Now I got self respect for myself and feel confident.

Later then, I've found that actually quite a few people were depresed/not happy with themselves/lost a dad/mom/etc before they started working out and now they look awesome.

So you should go and get a gym workout instead of special online help site.

I believe that you're going to turn out fine. It's sad to hear that you have such a problem, but it enlightens me that I know you have the support from someone that cares about you. Stay strong to yourself, because "willpower" is the key. If you're willing to stop drinking alcohol, I believe that in time - you'll stop.

Thank you for what you wrote, but I do work out in a gym, like twice a week. And I come home feeling all the better for it.

I have a real good support unit in my family. Although young, each one has had troubles and grown all the stronger for it. I believe my grief for loss will eventually level out, for then I will begin to see the top. Only right now it feels as if for every 2 steps forward, I slide back on.

But I haven't had a drink for 5 day's running. And I don't feel like one even now. I AM willing.

That's great! I hope your 5 day streak keeps getting longer. Just know that we're always here for you, as well.

It's great that you're improving and I hope you stay on the right track.

I hope soon enough you will be able to get over your shyness and make an even further step, like personally going to get help.

Thank you, LostSoul. I am already getting help and this morning my counsellor said I wasn't an alcoholic, just temporarily using alcohol as a prop. She said I was making good progress and that I am being positive.

lol but one thing I am dependent on is a good mug of coffee, and a cig. But having onanother thread stated my defence for tobacco, prefer not to be drawn again. Yes, coffee really does clear the mind and brighten the eyes. Just keep telling myself not to go past the second mug. 0_o
