Money: -2,137 | Am I a Pyromaniac? Hi. I've always liked to play with fire, it's one of my favorite pasttimes. I started questioning the appropriateness of this habit after a gynormous match bomb blew a 4-inch hole in my garbage can. I find that playing with fire relieves stress, I don't know, I guess exploding things has a relaxing effect on the brain or something... Whatever, but I read on the internet that if you play with fire and find it relaxes you, you are considered a pyromaniac. Am I? And should I seek mental help? I don't feel like hurting myself or others using fire, or burn my house down. I just don't want it to develop into a revenge thing and are asking wether or not you guys think I have it under control.
Cheers, V. |

I enjoy watching when a house burn's or something like that.
And I also like to burn stuff...
But not when it can harm other ppl...

I love flicking my lighter on and watching the flames.
I burn paper in my sink and blow on it to make it bigger.
I use to make smilies on my arms with my lighters.
But it can turn into self harm such as burning. Speaking from experience.

As long as you're not harming people then I'm sure you don't need mental help, but if you ever get urges to set fire to someone (which I'm sure you wouldn't :]) then i'd suggest seeking help.

Money: -2,042 | Re: Am I a Pyromaniac? Pyromaniacs are known to have feelings of sadness and loneliness, followed by rage, which leads to the setting of fires as an outlet. For a positive diagnosis, there must be purposeful setting of fire on at least two occasions. There is tension or arousal prior to the act, and gratification or relief when it is over. It is done for its own sake, and not for any other motivation. In some cases it is all about the pleasure of seeing what other people have to do to extinguish the fire, and the pyromaniac may enjoy reading of the effects of what they have done. Many arsonists claim that they just like to set fires for the sake of fires and the blaze of dancing flames. Many pyromaniacs feel a relief of stress in watching things burn or smolder, and the condition is fueled by the need to watch objects burn.

So long as your extremely careful with what you're doing, you should be ok. |

Try this. Light a candle. Light a old fashioned kerosene lantern and in a dark room look for the shadow of the candle flame on the wall. The relative difference in brightness is far less than with the sun, but the physics is the same.
Since you probably have neither a candle or a kerosene langern take my word for it.
