Ok. First, stop and breath. Now repeat after me. "It wasn't my fault" I knw that may be hard to believe, but it isn't.
Second. Decide whether you want to go to the police, you don't have to if you dont want to. However it may be worth it. There are pro's and cons to going to the police.
Third. You aren't alone. I have been there, twice. So if you need someone to talk to I am here, you an pm me anytime you like
Fourth. I would suggest getting into a counseling program, or talking to someone. Ignoring it and pretending it didn't happen is only going to make it worse. You can locate a counseling center near you here:
Counseling Centers | Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (its a link) and they offer a phone hotline as well as an online hot line here: National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE. and online though it is down right now here:
National Sexual Assault Online Hotline | Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network
(another link).
I also reccommend talking to your parents. I know its hard to tell them but at the same time, they can offer a lot of support.
And here are the pros and cons of ging to the police, that I've found:
Pros
- can be cathartic
- possibility of getting justice
- can label the asshole for what he is.
- he will not be able to hurt you if he gets put away
- he wont be able to hurt other girls
Cons
- its stressful, and you HAVE to face it.
- you will be dragged through the mud by the defense attorney if it goes to trial and he pleads not guilty or nolo contendere (no contest)
- you will have to see him, possibly pick him out of a lineup
- it may not go to court. they may decide there isn't enough evidence
- he may get acquitted, or plead to a lesser charge and serve little or no jail time
- you may have to deal with cps who are less than understanding
I am not trying to persuade you either way. Only you can make that choice. However I went to the police the first time, and the second time I didn't press charges, even after I talked to the police officer.
I will offer my support, no matter what choice you make. I am here to talk to if you need to.
