Im pretty sure I have a obssesion with Serial Killers. I cant get them out of my head, and I LOVE to read about them, I have piles of books written about them, plus tons of pyschology books on how a killer's mind thinks. Pretty much all day i think about them, How many people they killed, how they killed them, what did they do wrong, where did their passion destroy the spree. Whenever I speak intelligently about them, people look at me oddly, like I just killed a man in front of them and they sit their "awed" at how much I know. I dont think its that much of a big deal, I look at it like its the same as memorizing your favorite actors movie career. But evidently Im wrong. I dont understand why, and thats my promblem.

Your intense interest with the killers mind isn't so much a bad thing, because it's just something you find fascinating. Like you said, you love to read about it, and know as much as you can. When you start thinking, "I want to be like him.. but I want to be better!" That's when you have a problem. When it starts to take over your life, that's when you have a problem. You quit your job because of it, all that stuff.
My advice is to take Criminology and Psychology post-secondary. That's what I'm going to do. I'm becoming a criminal psychologist, because I find that stuff extremely interesting too. I want to study the mind of the killer. I want to find those deep, repressed memories that made them change into what they are. I want to know why they snapped.
If you have such a passion for this, make it your work. Make a career out of it, it would be the easiest thing you could ever do. You'd love your job, so you'd probably want to work more, and you'd probably make an excellent psychologist by the sounds of it.
As long as you don't start killing people, you're fine.

yes, but I can see why people tend to be uncomfortable with the knowledge. Because serial killers are a sinister thing, and people don't like to be made aware of it. And when you know that much about them, then it could also be taken as a "holy shit dude, this guys a serial killer waiting to happen" type reaction. Which is not neccessarily the case but still thats how people have a tendency to react.
I agree with Cassie (Absolute) make it your work to understand criminals but be doing so in a positive way.

I don't think it's a bad thing. I guess my only concern is why you have that interest... do you want to be like them? Or study them to understand them? I assume you want to understand them -- or at least that's what I am hoping. :0) Good luck with your classes.
I agree completly with absolutly unsure (whom I aparently share my name with...). there's nothing wrong with having a strong intrest in them, just so long as you don't want to be like them. Make a career out of it, that way you'll be sure to have a job you love. And if you know so much about it, why not write stories about them? Fiction is a great way to show off our knowledge. lol
I know exactly how you are, I do the same thing with School Shootings and those who commit them. People assume that since you're so educated on the topic, that you must want to commit the same crimes they did.
I use to be the same way. I would watch horror movies because it amused me to a certain point. I would pay attention to the killer's moves, weapons of choice and they way they went about it. The movie that mainly amazed me was Scream, even though it was horribly made. It shocked me how two normal teenage boys watched killer's do their job and remake it as their own. And it took people a while to figure it out.
I would scare myself when I would imagine myself as the killer and how I, myself, would go about killing a person. How I would do it differently and so on. It's not a bad thing, so to speak. But if your moves, such as reading starts to take over your life then maybe it's a problem. When reading if you crave to go kill then it's a problem. As long as the interest doesn't get a hold of you.

If you feel its becoming a problem, simply dont read about them or watch them. I know that will be hard..but it will probably remove the idea out of your head eventually.
I look at it like its the same as memorizing your favorite actors movie career. But evidently Im wrong. I dont understand why, and thats my promblem.
most of your favorite actors don't murder people. that's the difference. they are entertainers. they make people happy. serial killers kill people. tehy make people unhappy. It's ok to know about them, but its even freakin me out what you told me. I would be surprised if the FBI is reading this right now.
